Today's blog is all about "Easy, healthy rituals" and ideas on how you can build some great self-care moments into your day.
Since the previous audio blog went down so well, I've decided to keep creating recordings for you. If you prefer listening to reading, just click the image of me to listen to the full audio blog.
Also now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Podcasts.
How ya doing? I don’t know about you, but at last I do feel like we’re coming out of the winter months. These long, dark days and cold winter mornings in the UK can feel never-ending, can’t they?
Although I quite like the cosy aspect of wintertime, the extra blanket on the bed and the thermal socks, which seem to be permanently attached to my feet.
And I must admit, I love a seasonal routine, too. A way of being that adapts to the season, and one I can look forward to as the months change. Right now I’m yearning for my early morning coffee and meditation in the garden, but I’ve a feeling that’s some way off yet.
Today I want to talk about healthy routines, well, I’m actually going to call them “Rituals” as it sounds less dull, why they are useful and perhaps how you can create your own if you need to, to be in harmony with your life.
I’m a creature of habit, as many of us are. I like to get up at 7 am and be in bed by 9:00 pm. I like coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night, but over the years I’ve also discovered other ways to live that don't involve denying myself the things I love.
In my opinion, all good rituals should add to our lives and not leave us feeling as though healthy living denies us access to the things we enjoy, such as wine and chocolate, or, for me, the odd cigarillo - controversial maybe, but as my shares are built on honesty, I’m not going to keep my smoking habit from you.
The main areas of focus I believe we should all prioritise are mind, body, and soul; brain activity; exercise; and broader awareness. If we can find supportive ways to do this that are easy enough to maintain, we’re on the right track to staying physically and mentally well.
Equally, some days our daily rituals can go right out of the window, and that’s OK too. When this happens to me, and it often does, I just give myself time and the space to just be, and I get back on the horse when it feels right, without self-judgment or criticism.
When it comes to the mind, for me, a daily meditation practise is essential. I was introduced to guided meditation back in 2003 when my alternative health journey began after being diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. For the first ten years after my diagnosis, I dabbled with meditation, but now I can’t imagine life without it. I start every morning by giving myself around 15 minutes to become centred, connect with my guides, offer thanks and gratitude, and manifest and programme my day ahead. I also meditate in the bath every evening and say a few prayers before bed. I find that this ritual brings me both mental peace and an opportunity to access information beyond the physical realm, which is important to me.
I’ll talk more about my multidimensional connections in future blogs, but for now, all you need to know is that a regular meditation ritual can prove to be life-changing.
For the body, physical activity is important, but the type of exercise you feel drawn to will change as you age. I used to be a total gym bunny and loved the burn, but these days I can’t think of anything worse than going to a room full of sweaty people and picking up heavy objects. But that’s just where I’m at right now, and I never say never! Instead, I spend about 10 minutes each morning doing a few gentle, flowing Pilates stretches, which I find keep my body supple and ease aches and pains. I also like to get out of the house and do some fast-paced walking, and I’ve just invested in a little fitness bike that I try to use for around 20 minutes each day while listening to pumping dance music, of course! The movement you choose as your regular exercise ritual should leave you feeling vibrant and energised, whilst giving your mind time to process thoughts.
Also, to support my health, I try to eat healthy food, preferably organic whenever possible, although this can be costly, so I’m flexible in my choices. I’m a pescatarian, so I do consume animal protein, but I also try to include a protein drink in my diet each afternoon. Sadly, most of our food these days is low in natural vitamins and minerals, so, with my naturopath's advice, I also take various high-quality supplements. Drinking lots of good, clean water and organic herbal tea is also top of my healthy body ritual, which is probably the same for you.
When it comes to the soul or a broader awareness, I believe that simply having trust and faith that we all exist in an organised Universe and recognise a conscious relationship with the energetic source of creation is all we need. It’s also about understanding that this life, your life, is, at the most basic level, an opportunity to learn lessons. That every day is a new chance for growth, and that soul evolution is based on the premise that you learn through your experiences. That truth, joy and love are of the utmost importance, and the more you can achieve these very natural states of being, the more life satisfaction you will receive.
I will go deeper into reincarnation, life purpose, and life lessons in future blogs, as this is my bread-and-butter work, after all. But for now, all you need to be conscious of and include in your soul rituals is the understanding that this life is short and every day is a gift not to be taken for granted, but to be grateful for, even the tricky ones (well, especially the tricky ones tbh!).
Another ritual, which I guess falls under the entire banner of mind, body, and soul, is taking care of how you present yourself to the world. I’m not going to delve into behaviours here, but I will discuss your physical presentation and all that it encompasses.
I would encourage you, whether male or female, to invest time in ensuring that you feel good in how you look, not in an egotistical way, but in a heart-led way. Make sure your wardrobe is free of clothes that no longer fit well or outfits that have been worn to death. I prefer to maintain separate summer and winter wardrobes, which I review each year. This is a great way to stay aligned with how you present yourself. To evaluate what feels good to wear and aligns with the current version of who you are.
As we grow in our understanding and curiosity about life, we must keep a watchful eye on how we live. It’s all too easy to keep to the same old routine; we’re used to it, and at some stage in the past, it did serve us. But as we age, change, and grow, our rituals often need updating. It’s no good using the same skin care products at 40 that you used at 20. It’s not going to work if you wear that mini skirt or fitted jacket that you used to love in your 30’s when you’re embarking on your 5th decade. Being in tune with who you are and what makes you feel good empowers you and brings you joy each day, and it is essential to living a healthy life. For me, this also includes wearing my cosy PJs all day if I fancy it!
Other self-care rituals that I like to include are good skincare, nourishing daily rest, connection with others, and regular, enjoyable creativity, all of which help me to feel at my best, and I imagine it will be the same for you. Also, I schedule monthly visits with my nail tech and a five-weekly visit with an amazing hair stylist, as these interactions not only offer connection but also serve as a constant reminder that my physical needs are important.
I’m all about simplicity, ease and flow, but I’m also conscious of how quickly rituals can become redundant, so don’t feel that you must stick to a particular practise unless it remains useful to you.
But you know yourself well enough to pick and choose the type of rituals that suit you. We are all different, and we all have varying amounts of time available for these activities, but if you can discover through trial and error the best options for you, the ones that appeal to you and are easy enough for you to fit into your day, you will begin to build some really great self-care moments.
So maybe after reading or listening to this blog, you can spend some time considering your daily habits and routines and ask yourself:
Am I in harmony with my regular daily routine, or do I feel bored with the same old, same old?
Do I give myself enough time for mental peace, stimulating exercise, and a moment to capture and observe my thoughts?
Does the way I present myself mirror how I feel inside, or do I need to update a few things?
But please also remember to give yourself a break. You are a busy person with responsibilities and people who depend on you for various reasons. Healthy habits, routines and rituals should be easy, fun, relaxing, and, most of all, simple ways for you to take care of your body, mind and soul or your brain activity, exercise and broader-picture awareness.
In my next blog, I’m going to discuss relationships and the difference between masculine and feminine energies and how to recognise which energy you are expressing at any given moment in time and why this is important to understand.
I’m always here if you fancy delving deeper into the subject of “Easy, healthy rituals” in a non-judgmental, real-life, authentic way via my Intuitive 1:1 Talk Therapy Sessions, which can be carried out face-to-face in my beautiful Brighton studio or via Zoom.
There is also a lot of similar information to what I am sharing in these blogs available in my books, which you can purchase online via the button below.
Until next time, I’m sending you all my love as always.
